I'm back! 13 years later!
Inspired by a conversation I had with a friend last week, I decided to do a search for my grandfather's missing 1920 census record that prevented me from getting my Italian citizenship. Once again, I didn't find it.
I found something else instead. His obituary! No family member ever shared an obituary with me. I just happened upon it on Familysearch.com. A woman named Deborah with an email famhistrme@gmail.com uploaded it back in 2023. I reached out to her to thank her and ask if she is related to my grandfather in some way, but she hasn't responded.
A few interesting details about his obituary:- Why don't they name my grandmother, Antoinette? I thought this was odd.
- His eldest son was not called Carmen, Jr., to my knowledge. He was Bruno Charles Orlando.
- His sister's married name is misspelled. Her married name was Rondinelli.
Maybe taking a 13 year break in my research wasn't such a bad idea. I reached a point in my journey where I felt frustrated and disappointed by my outcome at the Italian Consultant. Since that time, genealogy websites have been updated, new documents have been added, and I have a renewed energy that might fuel a few more discoveries and blog posts. It feels good to be back!
